Sarasota Courthouse Elopement | Mikaely + Chris

If you’re searching for a Sarasota courthouse elopement photographer who actually gets it, who shows up for you the way you show up for each other, you’re in the right place. Mikaely sent me the first text and I just knew. Then she sent me a pic of that dress and my jaw hit the floor. An Anthropologie lace gown, the most stunning thing I’d seen, and she wore it with this effortless, totally-her energy that made it even better. We were sending voice memos back and forth like we’d been friends for years. Before I even realized it, they were booked. No hesitation. Just that feeling.

A Sarasota Courthouse Elopement That Felt Like Everything

They flew in from Cincinnati for this. And from the second I met them in person, it felt exactly the same as our messages. Easy, natural, like we’d already done this before. Chris brought the calm, steady energy. Mikaely brought the joy. And together it was just this quiet, undeniable kind of love you don’t have to force or pose. They trusted me with everything… the location, the flow, the moments… and just showed up fully as themselves. And that’s when it all clicks. No pressure, no overthinking, just being in it.

If you’ve never been inside the Sarasota Historic Courthouse, let me paint you a picture. Spanish tile altar. Dark carved wood paneling. Chandelier overhead. Warm amber light. It doesn’t look like a government building. It looks like something out of a European romance novel. It’s one of the most stunning ceremony spaces in all of Sarasota, and most people don’t even know it’s available to them. We were all just vibing the entire time… me, them, their content creator. It didn’t feel like work. It felt like being part of something. I could’ve photographed them for hours.

Can we talk about the dress for a second? Mikaely wore an Anthropologie lace gown that honestly stopped me in my tracks the moment I saw it. Open back, long train, intricate lace detail… it was made for this building. The way it moved through the hallways, caught the light coming through the arched windows, and trailed across that black and white checkered floor? Unreal. She wore it like she’d been wearing it her whole life, which is exactly the kind of effortless energy you hope for when you’re photographing someone. It photographed beautifully from every angle, and paired with her simple bouquet of white blooms and greenery, the whole look felt timeless without trying.

Chris showed up in a perfectly tailored ivory suit with a navy tie, and together they just made sense. You know those couples where everything about the pairing feels right? That was them. He was steady and present, cracking her up one second and looking at her like she was the only person in the building the next. Those are the moments I live for… the unguarded ones, the in-between ones, the ones neither of them will remember until they see the photos.

And honestly? The inside is just the beginning. Once we stepped outside, I was reminded all over again why this venue is so special for Sarasota elopement photography. The building’s Spanish Colonial architecture… ornate iron gates, carved stone facades, arched entryways framed by swaying palms… gives you this incredible variety of backdrops all within steps of each other. We moved through the hallways, out to the courtyard, past the iron gates, along the exterior walls, and every single spot was a different vibe. Moody and dramatic in the corridors. Light and romantic at the arches. Golden and warm under the palm trees. You genuinely don’t need to go anywhere else.

How to Plan Your Own Sarasota Courthouse Elopement

Thinking about doing something similar? Here’s what you need to know. A Sarasota county courthouse wedding is one of the most affordable and beautiful ways to elope in Southwest Florida. Florida residents need to wait three days after getting the license before the ceremony. Out-of-state couples can marry the same day. Bring valid IDs and your social security numbers, and you’re good to go.

A few things I always tell couples planning a Sarasota courthouse elopement: book your ceremony time early, especially if you’re coming in from out of state and working around a tight travel window. The building is busiest on weekday mornings, so if you want fewer people around for photos, aim for a late morning or early afternoon slot. Bring a small bridal party or keep it just the two of you… both work beautifully here. And if you want the palm tree and exterior shots with golden light, late afternoon is your best window. The building faces west and catches the most gorgeous warm light in those last couple hours before sunset.

Also… hire a photographer who knows the building. I’ve shot here multiple times and every session teaches me something new about the light, the angles, the hidden corners that most people walk right past. Knowing where to be and when makes a huge difference in what you walk away with. Mikaely and Chris trusted me with that, and the results speak for themselves.
