Sarasota Photographer: Your Guide to Finding the Perfect Photographer in Sarasota, FL

If you’re searching for a Sarasota photographer, you’re in the right place. Whether you’re planning a family portrait session on Siesta Key, a dreamy beach wedding, or welcoming a new baby, Sarasota’s stunning natural backdrops make it one of the best places in Florida to capture life’s most meaningful moments.

I’m Angela Moon, a Sarasota-based photographer who has spent years chasing golden hour light across Southwest Florida. In this guide, I’m walking you through what to look for in a Sarasota photographer, the best locations for photos in the area, and what you can expect when you book a session. Whether you’re local or traveling in just for photos (yes, people really do that), you’re going to want to read this.

Why Sarasota is a Photographer’s Dream

Sarasota, Florida is blessed with incredible scenery year-round. From the powder-white sand of Siesta Key Beach, consistently rated one of the best beaches in the country, to the lush greenery of Myakka River State Park, the variety of backdrops available to a Sarasota photographer is truly unmatched.

The golden hour light here is something else. With the Gulf of Mexico to the west, sunset sessions produce that warm, glowing magic that makes every single photo look like it belongs in a magazine. It’s one of the biggest reasons families, couples, and expecting mamas travel from all over Florida just to have their photos taken here. I will literally stop everything to notice a sky. And I will absolutely make you stop too. You’re welcome.

Types of Photography Sessions Available in Sarasota

Family Photography

Family portraits are one of the most popular session types in Sarasota, and honestly, I get it. The beach setting is relaxed and fun, which makes it so much easier to capture genuine smiles, especially from little ones who have zero interest in posing. I specialize in documenting the real stuff: the in-between moments, the chaos, the belly laughs, the way your kid looks at you when they think no one is watching. Sessions are typically held at golden hour, about an hour before sunset, for the most flattering light on everyone.

Wedding Photography

Sarasota is a seriously sought-after wedding destination. Venues range from waterfront estates to intimate garden settings, and I have had the absolute honor of photographing weddings at some of the most stunning spots in the area. A skilled Sarasota wedding photographer will know how to work with the Florida light and capture every emotional moment of your day, from the first look to the last dance. I cannot promise there won’t be tears running down my face at some point either. Fair warning. Wedding collections start at $3,400, and elopements are fully customized around your vision.

Newborn and Maternity Photography

This chapter of life is one of my absolute favorites to document. Before I became a mom myself, I loved this work. But after going through pregnancy and everything that comes with it, it genuinely became the part of my business that hits different. Even if you’re on the fence, even if you’re uncomfortable and exhausted and just not feeling it, do the session anyway. You will not regret it, and I will make sure you love every single photo. Whether we do a studio session with soft wraps and dreamy props, or a golden hour outdoor maternity session at sunset, I will create a calm and beautiful experience for you.

Best Locations for a Photo Session in Sarasota

I have photographed all over this area and these are the spots I keep coming back to. Every single one has something special to offer, and knowing which location fits your vibe is half the battle.

Siesta Key Beach

Iconic white sand and turquoise water. This is the quintessential Sarasota backdrop and it never gets old. Siesta Key is perfect for families, couples, and really anyone who wants that dreamy Florida beach look. I know exactly where to stand to get the best light here.

Myakka River State Park

Lush, green, and earthy. If you want something that feels more natural and organic rather than a beach setting, Myakka is stunning. I know exactly which spots are worth the extra walk, and I promise it’s worth it.

Downtown Sarasota

Murals, architecture, and so much urban charm. Great for editorial-style portraits and engagement sessions with a more creative, artsy feel. The Ringling area especially has this magical energy that photographs beautifully. Check out Nicole and Gabe’s Ringling Museum proposal to see what I mean.

Lido Key

Quieter than Siesta Key with beautiful sunset views and right next to St. Armands Circle. I have photographed some seriously stunning proposals out here and the light is just chef’s kiss. See Dylan and Megan’s Lido Beach proposal for some serious inspo.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens

Lush tropical greenery that feels like you’ve been transported somewhere completely magical. Ideal for maternity sessions and wedding portraits. I shot Stacy and Andy’s wedding at Selby Gardens and the banyan trees alone made me emotional. The soft overcast light in that space is genuinely unreal.

What to Look for When Hiring a Sarasota Photographer

Not all photographers are the same, and honestly, the relationship matters just as much as the portfolio. Here’s what to consider before you book:

Style

Do you love bright and airy? Moody and dramatic? Bold and storytelling-focused? Scroll through portfolios carefully. Your photographer’s natural style needs to match your vision, because that’s the style you’re going to get on your actual day. Browse my portfolio here to see if we vibe.

Experience

Ask how long they’ve been shooting in Sarasota specifically. A local photographer will know exactly where to stand at Siesta Key to get the best light, or which spots at Myakka are worth the trek. I have been living and shooting in Sarasota for years and I know this area like the back of my hand.

Packages and Pricing

Most Sarasota photographers offer a range of packages. Be clear on what’s included, specifically the number of edited images, turnaround time, and whether prints or albums are available. Check out my full package details and pricing here.

Personality

This is a big one. You will be spending an hour or more with this person, probably on one of the most meaningful days of your life. Make sure you actually like them and feel comfortable around them. My whole thing is that during your session, you should feel like yourselves while also feeling super chill and confident. But most importantly, it’s all about having a damn good time.

Reviews

Check Google reviews and testimonials. Consistent five-star reviews are a strong sign you’re in good hands. As one of my clients put it: “She was an absolute DREAM to work with. She’s not just your photographer, she’s a true friend. You’d be crazy not to hire her!” That kind of thing doesn’t happen by accident.

When is the Best Time for a Photo Session in Sarasota?

Florida light can be incredibly harsh at midday, so most experienced Sarasota photographers schedule sessions during golden hour: the hour after sunrise or the hour before sunset. This gives you that soft, warm, glowing light that is nearly impossible to replicate at any other time of day. I will always stop to notice the sky and take too many photos of the sunset. That’s just who I am, and your photos seriously benefit from it.

As for time of year, October through April is considered peak season in Sarasota. The humidity is lower, temperatures are comfortable, and the skies tend to be clearer. That said, summer sessions can be absolutely stunning too. The dramatic clouds and lush greenery after a Florida rain shower create a moody, beautiful backdrop that you honestly can’t plan for and can’t replicate. I’m here for all of it.
